Notes: This was the first sail on Mojito
in nearly a year. While I've had a lot of
fun racing (we won boat of the year on
Plus One, a Jeanneau Sunrise), it's so
nice to have my own boat back in
action. She's in the water and ready to
go, anytime I feel like a quick sail.
What a wonderful thing - this is what all
the work is for! There's still a lot of
work to do, but when is there not on an
old boat?

This weekend's sailing was perfect for
a shakedown cruise. Saturday morning
was a bit rough, but it laid down
enough for a pleasant sail by early
afternoon. Sunday was fantastic all
day. The cruise revealed that the
halyards were twisted, which was an
easy fix. Also, it highlighted the need
for a boom vang. I'd forgotten how
hard it was to trim the Triton properly.
We jury rigged a couple of blocks to
test some fittings and locations for the
vang attachments and a new vang will
be fitted very soon.

The sail also highlighted how badly I
need a new headsail. Most of my sails
were off the boat for the duration of
the project and were lost to the storm.
The jib is in purely awful shape, though
I'm grateful to have it right now. The
first sail I'll buy will be a good 150 that
should serve me well for sailing on
Lake Pontchartrain.

The engine ran a bit rough. At first I
thought it was due the long period of
inactivity and that it would "walk it off,"
but it didn't improve over the two days.
I used it only to get in and out of the
marina. However, I'm going to go out
there this week to change the oil and
filters and to check all of the hoses. I'm
also sure the prop is foul so it's
probably having a bit of a time moving
the water. While I'm at work on the
routine maintenance, I'll also make a
list of larger Atomic 4 projects that will
need to be done. At the top of that list
will be adjusting the transmission.
